We visited the Auburn University Regional Airport on Tuesday, October 26 to learn about airplanes and airports. We are getting ready for our flight to Hawaii, which will be in a few weeks. We felt that a visit to the airport would be a great way to give the children some hands-on research about airplanes and airports.
The staff at the airport set up six different rotations for us to visit. Mr. Hutto, the director of the airport, took us on a tour of the Flight Crew's lounge.
At the line station, the children learned how to direct an airplane when parking on the ground.
Next, we visited the hangar where the Auburn Universitiy Jets were stored. A pilot talked to the children about the different parts of an airplane. The children also got to ask him some questions.
We learned about the fuel trucks.
Each child was able to sit in a small flight education airplane and pretend they were flying!
We ended by visiting the new observation deck and touring the offices in the airport.
A big thank you to the staff at the Auburn University Regional Airport for helping us learn more about airplanes and airports!
Trike Ride
AEEC's 2nd annual Trike Ride was Friday, October 15th, 2010. Mrs. Griffies' Gophers did a great job! They were really fast and they cheered on all of their friends as they were riding the tricycles. We had a special appearance by our Tiger Cub. Coach Robert also dressed up like a policeman to monitor the traffic. The tradition of the Trike Ride is for the teachers to make the last lap and Mrs. Griffies took on the challenge. We had a great time!
