School House Rock

School House Rock was Friday, May 11, 2012.  Each Yellow Pod class showed us a different skill that they had learned in PE this year.  Our class did a routine to Count Bounce Countdown.  They showed us how to dribble a basketball.

The Safari Market

Our market was on Wednesday, May 9, 2012.  Our store was named "The Safari Market".  The items that we sold are rainforest coasters, jaguars, shark tooth necklaces, frog door hangers, rainforest soap, banana pops, and mangos.  Each child got a chance to shop at other stores in the pod.  They also got a chance to sell the items that we made to the other classes in the Yellow Pod.  Our class had some really good salesmen.  We sold all of our products!

PTA Performance

The Yellow Pod performed at the PTA Meeting Monday night, May 7.  They sang songs about the Rainforest.  Some songs that they sang are Sixty Inches of Rain, Bam Chi Chi Bam, I'm Being Swallowed By A Boa Constrictor, Do You Know?, Five Red Eyed Tree Frogs, and May There Always Be Sunshine.  They did a great job performing!

South West Dairy Farmers

On Wednesday, April 18th, the students were called outside to watch a presentation from SouthWest Dairy Farmers. They learned all about dairy and the various types of cows. The students learned where milk comes from, how to milk a cow, about the utters, and even got to watch a representative show them the steps of getting milk. At the end of the presentation, the students were shown how the milking machines are attached to the cow's utters and how the cow can produce up to 120 pounds of milk at one time.We learned that cows have 1 calf ever year. The students enjoyed learning from the dairy farmers and did a great job participating!

Auburn University Raptor Center Show

On Friday April 6th, the Auburn University's Raptor Center came to Auburn Early Education Center for a special yellow pod presentation. The students were seated outside near the Tiger's Den to learn about different types of raptors around our area. First, we learned about an owl that camoflauges. We also learned about the owl's hunting and feeding habbits. We later learned about a Red-Tailed Hawk, Barn Owl (also know as a "ghost owl"), Falcon, and a Bald Eagle. The Bald Eagle was named "Spirit" and flies around Auburn's stadium on game days. The students enjoyed the presentation and later got to write about it in their daily journals.

Tree Frogs in the Rainforest

We recently completed our thematic study on tree frogs in the rainforest. We learned about the flying tree frog, red eyed tree frog, and the posion dart frog. We talked about some of the vocabulary used when discussing tree frogs such as amphibian, Bromeliad ponds, camoflauge, imitating, life cycles, and ecosystem. The students enjoyed learning about the various types of frogs, and especially the poison dart frog. After learning about tree frogs they got to construct their own tree frog and paint it according to their favorite kind of frog that we learned about. To wrap up our unit on tree frogs, we went outside on a nature walk to observe some of the possibly habitats of tree frogs in the rainforest. The children were great at using their imagination!

Puppet Show

We had a puppet show at AEEC on Friday, March 2.  Mr. Bob Parson's with Walkabout Puppets presented Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  He did a wonderful job and the children really enjoyed the show!

Oobleck

We made oobleck on Thursday, March1, 2012.  We used cornstarch, water, and green food coloring.  The children really enjoyed exploring the properties of oobleck.
